Sales and Marketing Council
The Atlanta Sales and Marketing Council (SMC) is a more than 400-member council comprised of sales and marketing professionals in the homebuilding industry. The SMC is currently the largest and most viable council in the HBA. The council was established in 1980 to enhance the sales and marketing capabilities and reputation of those who represent the HBA. The SMC is dedicated to developing a higher level of professionalism in the general membership through education and the interchange of ideas. The SMC’s governing body consists of a board of directors comprised of five executive committee members and eight board of director members each of which are responsible for a committee. The SMC is committed to the following areas: education, programs, membership, awards and charity.
Education
SMC believes that knowledge is power. As sales and marketing professionals, it's important to provide cutting edge information to members. Education and training programs help inform members about changing housing trends and consumer preferences. That is why two national designation programs are provided. More than 1,200 sales agents have received special designations through SMC.
Programs
SMC continues to offer excellent programs to our membership. Each year we conduct a survey and ask what types of programs our membership would like to have. The SMC meets every second Wednesday of the month and hosts five major educational dinner/programs for the year. Programs feature at least two national speakers who offer expertise on topics that are of major concern to our industry. Meetings are informative, timely, educational and entertaining.
Awards
Million Dollar Circle Awards: Each year, we honor our sales agents and sales managers at our Million Dollar Circle Awards. This is a national program that we host locally to recognize the talented professionals that produce million of dollars in sales for the metro Atlanta homebuilding industry.
OBIE Awards: The OBIE Awards is an annual program produced by the HBA and the SMC to recognize the most outstanding professionals in the metro Atlanta homebuilding industry. The program offers all HBA members the opportunity to compete with other industry professionals in building, remodeling, marketing and personal achievement areas. By entering, members gain industry recognition and attract public relations opportunities and potential home buyers.
Every August, industry professionals from across the United States are asked to judge entries. The gold winners of this prestigious award are given a four-sided crystal obelisk during a black-tie awards gala held in November.
Community Service
Every year SMC hosts a silent auction for charity. In 2005, our eleventh year, we raised $45,000—the most ever—and donated it to Georgia Canines for Independence, Cure Childhood Cancer and the Georgia National Guard Foundation.
