HBA's Get Home ATL Campaign Wins Association Excellence Award

On Aug. 7, the HBA received an Award of Excellence in the category of Best Public Awareness Campaign with a Buy-Now Message from the Executive Officers Council of the National Association of Home Builders. The award recognizes the HBA’s Get Home ATL campaign, which ran throughout the metro Atlanta area in fall 2007.

The Get Home ATL campaign was created in response to the negative and exaggerated media coverage of Atlanta’s declining housing market. HBA members raised $336,000, which was leveraged into a $1.2 million advertising and public relations campaign designed to educate and encourage home buyers to “buy now.”

The Web site www.GetHomeATL.com was where all the campaign’s ads and other messages directed the public to visit for more information. The site listed the top 10 reasons to buy a home; provided information about how to choose a builder and shop the Atlanta home market; and allowed site visitors to register to win great prizes.

In addition to print ads in dozens of newspapers and magazines and ads on radio, TV and the Internet, thousands of fliers, banners, yard signs and bumper stickers were made for distribution to and placement in high-traffic areas such as shopping malls, sports and concert venues and parks and recreation areas.

The Get Home ATL campaign’s creative services were provided by HBA member company Full Circle Real Estate Marketing, and public relations services were provided by HBA member company Flammer Relations. Dozens of other HBA member companies donated their time, money and materials to ensure the Get Home ATL campaign’s success.

“I’m very proud of the association and the hard work of our members and staff,” says David Ellis, executive vice president of the HBA. “To receive an Association Excellence Award and to be recognized by one’s peers is a huge compliment.”

The winning entries will become part of the Executive Officers Council's Idea Loan File, which helps other executives and associations across the country provide better service to members and their communities.
