GAHBA Begins Year 3 with the Boys and Girls Club
The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (GAHBA) held the first session of its third annual Boys and Girls Club Program last night at the A. Worley Brown Club in Norcross, Georgia.
The program started in 2023 and stemmed from a national partnership between the Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The GAHBA was chosen as one of 10 pilot cities to spearhead the program.
The overall goal of the program is to inform students about the many great opportunities that are available in the residential construction field in hopes of getting the next generation of workers more interested in homebuilding.
This year's program, led by Lennar Atlanta and members of the GAHBA Workforce Development Committee, includes over a dozen students who will learn about the entire home-building process from start to finish.
Last night's session gave the students an introduction to Lennar Atlanta and an overview of the different jobs that are available in residential construction.
The students will follow a Lennar Atlanta development that is in the area, and they will build a mock-up wall that resembles a part of the actual development that they are following!
Tony Cann, GAHBA Workforce Development Committee Chair, and Myles Cardenas, GAHBA Workforce Development Committee member are assisting the Lennar team in the nine-session program, which rounds out with a celebratory field trip with the students to the Lennar development.
Following the initial session, Cann, Cardenas, and GAHBA Marketing and Communications Manager Thomas Touchstone played basketball with some of the students. Both the students and the program leads are looking forward to a rematch in the spring!
