GAHBA Workforce Development Committee Hosts Career Day at Sandy Springs Charter Middle School
The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (GAHBA) Workforce Development (WFD) Committee hosted a Career Fair at Sandy Springs Charter Middle School on Thursday, December 5th.
Tony Cann, GAHBA WFD Committee Chair, and Myles Cardenas, GAHBA WFD Committee Member, gave the students a quick presentation about our association, our workforce initiatives, and the benefits of a career in residential construction.
"Thank you everyone for the passion and dedication for our WFD initiatives. We have such a great team of engaged professionals," Cann said.
Following the presentation, the students were broken up into four groups, each led by a WFD Committee member or other GAHBA member.
Group 1 was led by Cardenas, the Land Planning and Development Manager at Taylor Morrison. He was able to give the students his insights and expertise in land development.
Group 2 was led by Marc Caputo, the President of Pine Creek Construction. The gave students an idea about remodeling homes and how it differs from a new home build.
Group 3 was led by Chuck Laster, Business Development Manager at Carter Lumber, and Brad Ethridge, Building Envelop Specialist at DuPont Tyvek.
Group 4 was led by Kyle McQueen, owner of McQueen Electric, and Aiden Creel, Account Manager at McQueen Electric. They taught the students about entrepreneurship and the value of learning a trade as it relates to the residential construction industry.
The GAHBA WFD Committee was thrilled to be able to talk about the value of residential construction with the students at Sandy Springs Charter Middle School and wants to specifically thank Ms. Petrina Hill and her students for allowing us to spend the afternoon with them.
